Massage Therapy

There are many fascinating traditions in alternative medicine that come from outside of the euro-western practice. Spa Heaven invites its clients to experience the numerous and often unexpected benefits these traditions have to offer.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is often confused with deep pressure massage. Deep pressure massage means a constant, strong pressure throughout the session. Deep tissue massage can indeed have a significant amount of pressure behind certain techniques but deep tissue always has a goal. It is used on ailments like chronic pain, recovery from injuries, limited mobility, postural problems and muscle tension or spasm, among others.

Couples (Tandem) Massage

Sometimes called a tandem massage, this is simply a massage for two. Two clients, two massage tables, two therapists…too much fun! It’s by far our most popular. A wonderful experience for couples, friends or family. And, it’s a gift you can give to someone and enjoy it yourself as well. (Please add $10 per half hour for Deep Tissue, Trigger Point and Sports) Duo or Tandem is also when Two Therapist administer massage to one client at a time.

Aromatherapy massage uses essential oil blends to target ’what ails you’. Our custom blended oils are drizzled onto the pressure points of the body before and during your massage, adding wonderful fragrance to the room (and to you) and bringing you back in balance. The stress extractor uses a mixture of bergamot and geranium oils to relieve tension and calm your nerves. Breathe deep… just what the doctor ordered when you‘re congested and generally feeling lack-luster. eucalyptus, camphor and pine oils will help in respiratory aid, and make you feel almost as good as when mom rubbed your chest when you were a child. Aromatherapy is a form of alternative medicine that uses volatile plant materials, known as essential oils, and other aromatic compounds for the purpose of altering a person's mind, mood, cognitive function or health. Some essential oils such as tea tree have demonstrated anti-microbial effects, but there is still a lack of clinical evidence demonstrating efficacy against bacterial, fungal, or viral infections. Evidence for the efficacy of aromatherapy in treating medical conditions remains poor, with a particular lack of studies employing rigorous methodology, but some evidence exists that essential oils may have therapeutic potential.

Hot Stone Massage

Ancient civilizations believed that hot stones were beneficial in healing in many ways, especially for cleansing the body, relaxing the heart, grounding the soul and soothing the mind. Stones are placed on or near the body to facilitate healing. Hot stone massage is a specialty massage where the therapist uses smooth, heated stones, either as an extension of their own hands, or by placing them on the body while they massage other parts of the body.

The Heat is On

During a hot stone massage, which became popular in the US in the 1990s, the therapist heats as many as 50 basalt stones to 120–140º F, rubs them over your oiled body, and rests them on top of and beneath you—on your stomach, in your palms, between your toes. The stones’ warmth enhances the relaxing effects of the pressure. Some people believe the stones have healing, grounding qualities, which makes hot stone massage a more profound experience than your basic massage.

Running Hot and Cold

The therapist will leave some of the smooth, heated massage stones in contact with your body and use others to massage you. Cold stones are sometimes incorporated, especially on the face, where they have a firming effect. Hot stone a feel-good treatment found on most spa menus. Hot and cold stone temperatures have said to be like the 'vascular gymnastics' of the circulatory systems, the system that controls self-healing in the body.

4 Hand Massage

In a four-hands massage, two therapists work on one client, often using synchronized moves. A four-hands massage can be like experiencing two full body massages at the same time. Good massage therapists will use the client’s body as a form of canvas onto which they choreograph slow, detailed moves of varying paces and pressures. There are a number of different styles of four-hand massage. Four-hand massage is generally more expensive than other forms of massage, since two therapists must be compensated for their time and skill. Not all spas offer this service.

Why get a Four-Hands Massage?

When two therapists and four hands hit your body, your mind reacts differently. At first you might find yourself trying to keep track of the therapists, where each one is and what each one is doing, struggling to keep it all in a very logical order in your head. But very quickly your brain realizes it’s not sure who is doing what, and gives up control. This is a powerful treatment for anyone who has a hard time letting go during treatments.

Trigger Point Therapy

If you have ever massaged a person or been massaged yourself then you have probably came across trigger points. They are commonly known as muscle knots; the often painful spots where muscles seem to be clumped together in a tight little ball.

Swedish or Relaxation Massage

Swedish massage is what most people mean when they talk about the general term massage. It is one of the most relaxing types of massage to receive as it works over the whole body. The general techniques are gliding, kneading, tapping, and vibrating or shaking; used on different muscles in the body depending on the desired result.

Positional Release

Positional release therapy is, in some ways, like trigger point therapy as it focuses on painful muscle areas. The similarities end there however. Positional release therapy is a relatively new technique which is not necessarily seen as a form of massage.

Sports Massage

Sports massage, as the name suggests, is a therapy designed for high activity people. Depending on the sport you will be playing there are different areas to treat both pregame and postgame.

Prenatal Massage

Postnatal Massage

Bringing new life into the world is a wonderful thing but it also puts a lot of strain on the body. Postnatal massage sessions are tailored to help with postpartum issues which every mother deals with.

Lymph Drainage Therapy

Lymph is the fluid in your body which transports fat, returns protein to the circulatory system and is an important part of fending of bacterial diseases. The lymphatic system runs through the body much as the circulatory system does and brings lymph into the blood and muscles.

Reflexology is the activation of specific points on the hands and feet to promote the proper functioning of the body. The idea behind reflexology is that the hands and feet are like condensed maps of the rest of the body; the head, torso, organs, legs and arms are all directly connected to specific areas of the hands and feet.
